The story follows eccentric parapsychologists and professors who, after losing their research grant from their University in New York, set up a company specializing in cases of supernatural apparitions.

Slimer was the first ghost captured by the team of Egon, Peter, and Ray in their first mission. Made of ectoplasm, Slimer received its name thanks to the green goo it leaves behind when it passes through solid objects. A legend of the Sedgewick Hotel, Slimer is known for his gigantic appetite. Thanks to its popularity, it has become a mascot of the Ghostbusters.
